Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante

Breitling are renowned for their astonishing accomplishments in the watchmaking industry. The Navitimer Rattrapante reaffirms Breitling’s mastery of chronographs by unveiling its own split-seconds chronograph, considered one of horology’s grandest complications. With its two superimposed central chronograph hands of which one can be stopped so as to measure an intermediate (split) time, before ‘catching up’ (rattraper in French) with the first one still sweeping onward.

To highlight its exceptional new ‘engine’ Breitling has chosen its famous Navitimer, the doyenne of mechanical chronographs produced worldwide since 1952. Available in steel and a limited edition 250 18ct Red Gold.  The Panamerican Bronze dial is encircled with contrasting white. The indented sub-dials measure 1/4th seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours, whilst the date aperture sits subtly between 4 and 5 o’clock. The bidirectional bezel is fluted for easy manipulation and features a slide rule to effortlessly convert between a variety of units including miles per hour and kilometres. The cambered sapphire crystal is glare-proofed on both sides to guarantee durability and readability. For comfort and splendour, the case is presented on full-grain alligator brown leather, finished with heavy, white stitching and an 18ct red gold buckle.

The red gold model is equipped with a transparent case back to reveal the Breitling Manufacture Caliber BO3. This self-winding mechanical movement provides 28,800 vibrations per minute for ultimate precision and an extraordinary power reserve of 70 hours minimum.

But it is the chronograph that takes pride of place.

Two hands sit at 12 o’clock, one in red, the other red gold. They are balanced with a Breitling ‘B’ and anchor respectively. The 3 o’clock crown houses a push-piece; depress it, and both hands tick as one around the dial. Press again and the red gold hand stops. Again and it snaps back to join the red hand.

This is no small feat, in fact, this movement is protected by two patents. Like all Breitling movements, the Manufacture Breitling Caliber B03 is chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), the only precision and reliability benchmark based on an international norm.

This is the definitive chronograph for a legendary watch.
