Preparing For A Proposal
Are you planning for the perfect proposal? Make sure you haven’t skipped any important steps with our proposal checklist…
Find the perfect engagement ring.
Like the distinctive spirit, voice and personality of the one you love, an engagement ring is individual and personal. Whether a new design or inspired by a classic, every Hugh Rice engagement ring starts off on paper. After our jewellery designers perfect the designs, we source the finest diamonds and metals from around the world. Then we handcraft and refine every detail to ensure flawless beauty, clarity and quality.
Get the ring insured.
Jewellery is normally insured under home insurance. Make sure the ring is fully covered before you walk out the door and pop the question.
Get their blessing.
If your partner is close to their family, traditionally it is expected that you’d speak to their relatives of your intentions to marry and ask for permission from their father. Keeping your partner's family in the loop and aware of your plans will make them feel part of the proposal process.
Getting a blessing from your partner's family is not a step that everybody deems necessary. If you have previously discussed marriage with your partner, you should have an idea of the steps they would like you to take during the proposal.
Plan the proposal.
The story of your proposal will be heard by friends, family and even strangers for years to come. Make your story unique and one to be remembered. We’ve shared a few of our favourite proposal ideas in this blog post.
Prepare for the unexpected.
Sometimes things just don't go as planned. Come up with a plan B for everything for your proposal, and you'll leave no room for error. Taxi late? Have a friend on standby to take you to your proposal location.
What if they say no? This doesn’t necessarily mean the relationship has come to an abrupt end, you’ve just come to a crossroad in your relationship that you need to discuss. This may just not be on the cards for your relationship right now. You can always return the ring.

Share the good news.
Congratulations, you’re engaged! Ideally you’ll want to tell your immediate families and close friends first, try avoiding a Facebook or Instagram announcement until you’re sure you’ve told the appropriate people first. We know you’ll be itching to flash the engagement ring on Instagram, but the last thing you’ll want is to offend any of your nearest and dearest by not sharing the news personally.
Now it’s time to celebrate this wonderful moment in your life! Crack open the champagne, plan your engagement party or even a romantic getaway. However you and your partner decide to celebrate the happy news, make sure you make time to reflect and enjoy this moment.
