The Tudor Pelagos

In recent years Tudor have been full of surprises with their releases outside of Baselworld and last year was no exception. In November Tudor launched the Pelagos LHD (Left Hand Drive), a new addition to the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) winning collection. The Pelagos LHD is designed with left-handed divers’ in mind with the crown being placed on the left-hand side of the watch. This is largely a practical change to allow divers’ to wear their watches on the right wrist, which allows the left hand to be free to turn the crown and bezel.
The inspiration for the Pelagos LHD comes from Tudor’s rich heritage where left-hand side watches were commissioned at the request of diving professionals, including outfits such as Marine Nationale (French Navy). Due to this connection, there are some subtle details which nod to divers’ watches from years gone by such as the caseback engraved with its own individual number.
Aesthetically, there are some subtle changes to the dial and bezel, which are specific to the LHD. The luminous markers of the dial and bezel are now beige, giving the look of ‘patina’, which is often found on vintage Tudor divers’ watches. The addition of ‘Pelagos’ written in red perfectly complements the ‘roulette’ date wheel, which alternates between red (even dates) and black (odd dates) numbers. ‘Roulette’ is a name affectionately applied by watch enthusiasts and describes the alternating colour of the date between black and red, like that of a roulette wheel. The background of the date is also in beige to perfectly match the luminous markers.
The Pelagos LHD is equipped with the in-house Tudor MT5612-LHD COSC certified movement and has an approximate 70-hour power reserve for high performance timekeeping. The titanium case (with helium escape valve), titanium bracelet and patented self-adjusting clasp that the other members of the Pelagos family are equipped with, remain the same. It is the in-house movement and these other components that have made the Tudor Pelagos the award winning, modern tool watch that it is. The addition of the Pelagos LHD makes the Pelagos family a complete collection of modern tool watches.
