The Speedmaster Anniversary Series timepiece is a modern reinterpretation honouring OMEGA’s historic legacy and its first journey into space. On October 3rd, 1962, the OMEGA Speedmaster CK 2998 made history as the first OMEGA to be worn in space, when astronaut Walter Schirra wore the watch during the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury programme. This new and updated model blends the iconic design of the original 2nd generation Speedmaster with modern elements for today’s collectors and space enthusiasts alike. The 39.7MM satin-brushed stainless-steel watch is powered by the OMEGA Calibre 3861 manual-winding chronograph movement, complete with chronograph complication and presented on a co-ordinating black calf leather strap. The ultra-modern and smart black dial features vintage-style baton hour indexes and steel hands, with a luminescent fill for high visibility in dark climates. The three chronograph dials at the centre record small seconds, 30-minutes and 12-hours and it's complete with a chronograph seconds hand. The front of the dial is protected by a durable, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, offering both protection and clarity. On the case back, the iconic Seahorse medallion is proudly displayed, alongside engravings that read "THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE" and "OCTOBER 3, 1962," commemorating its historic significance. The bezel ring is polished black anodised aluminium, with a steel tachymeter scale for measuring speed. Powered by the OMEGA famous manual-winding Calibre 3861, it comes with a power reserve of 50-hours, a 50M water resistance which is ideal for everyday wear and a five-year brand warranty.
