Our History
Hugh Rice the Jewellers was established over four decades ago, and we are very proud of our history and heritage. Take a trip through time to see the milestones that have made us who we are today.
1965
Starting Point
Founder, Hugh Rice started his apprenticeship at the prestigious Carmichael’s department store.
1971
Where it Began
36 George Street opens. Hugh Rice the Jewellers was born with the help of a £200 bank loan.
1980
Growing the Team
The Hugh Rice team starts to grow with its first employee.
1981
Omega joins Hugh Rice
Our first significant brand joins the Hugh Rice journey.
1985
Signet Store Opens
Signet by Hugh Rice opens, a shop purely concentrating on the retail side of the company.
1988
George Street Store Opens
10 – 14 George Street store opens as a result of outgrowing our existing two stores. Our manufacturing and retail elements combine.
2000
First Beverley Store Opens
Beverley 15 – 17 North Bar Within opens.
2002
Hugh Rice Launches Online
Hugh Rice expands it’s business online.
2006
Whitefriargate Store
32 Whitefriargate, Hull opens.
2008
St. Stephens Store Opens
From High Street to Shopping Centre, Hugh Rice moved to Unit 6, St Stephens Hull.

PANDORA Store Hull
Hugh Rice Whitefriargate is transformed into PANDORA – the 4th PANDORA concept - store in the UK.
