Like TAG Heuer, Gulf Oil, a major global oil company prominent for much of the mid-20th century, were synonymous for their association with auto racing. Their racing colours, pale blue and orange, became renowned after appearing in the 1971 Steve McQueen 'Le Mans', in which McQueen's character Michael Delaney drives for the Gulf team. This edition retains the styling of the original watch; the right-hand drive crown is set between by two block pushers, the square dial features two square sub-dials for timing seconds and minutes, and the case is affixed to a leather strap. The first of the homages to Gulf are the blue and orange racing stripes across the blue sunray brushed dial. Accompanying these decals is the subtle 'Gulf' logo seated just above the 6 o'clock date aperture. The perforated leather strap is a darker navy blue, with intricate details and orange lining. Turn the watch over and the automatic Calibre Heuer 02 movement is visible through the circular crystal case back.
