TUDOR Black Bay P01 Steel & Brown Leather 42MM Automatic Watch

In the 1960's TUDOR developed a prototype watch for the US Navy that never made it to production. Records were kept by watch experts at the brand and now a model inspired by its design has been made in the form of the Black Bay P01. Presented at Baselworld 2019, TUDOR has described it as a mix between a diver's watch and a sailing watch while remaining firmly anchored in the present with its hinged end-link system, connecting the steel watch to its leather strap and giving it the illusion of an extra long case. The satin-brushed 42 mm case has a matt finish, it's fitted with a domed black dial, painted luminescent hour markers and iconic TUDOR snowflake hands which glow for high visibility in dark waters. The dial also features a white seconds counter around the outer edge, a date aperture at 3 o'clock and the TUDOR logo and branding ensures the stamp of quality. The domed sapphire crystal glass protects the dial and is framed by the bidirectional rotating bezel with a stop system via a mobile end-link at 12 o'clock and screw-down winding crown at 4 o'clock. The hybrid leather and rubber strap is presented in a soft brown, with steel attachments and a folding clasp with a safety catch. The automatic Calibre MT5612 that drives the Black Bay P01 model is certified as a chronometer by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), it's a self-winding mechanical movement with a bidirectional rotor system and an impressive 70-hour power reserve. Waterproof up to 200 metres, the Black Bay P01 model - which stands for prototype 1 - has been designed to ensure robustness, longevity and reliability and has been brought to life just 50 years later.
